Every year Thrangu Monastery holds a 1-week of Mahakala Prayer ceremony before the Lunar New Year. The prayer symbolizes be prosperity, good health, and success of the coming year

Mahakala is known as the “Dharma Protector.” Mahakala eliminates obstacles in one’s dharma practice, keeping away deception and delusion. When chanting the Mahakala mantra or reciting his sadhana, practitioners’ negative thoughts and actions are purified and they are protected from negative forces.
