Workshops
1. Songwriting with Josh Bogert:
Come prepared with your notepad and creative mindset as you embark on a journey to explore the core principles of songwriting. Immerse yourself and discover how music and songwriting come together to function!
About the mentor
Josh Bogert, a Vancouver-based electropop artist, is a triple threat. Singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer, the prolific 22-year-old delivers a distinctive sound that is both complex and candid. Bogert’s writing bites with honest lyrics set against a backdrop of dynamic arrangements that deliver a sound that feels organic, conveying texture through production to engage the senses.
2. Stage presence with Speed Control;
Straight out of -40 degrees in Canada’s Yukon comes Speed Control with super tight, riff-heavy, harmony rock. Steeped in a jazz and classical background, they have turned to their true passion—rock 'n’ roll.
In this stage presence workshop turn up the awesome! The key to a great live show is energy and excitement that connects you with your audience. So come work with the band, Speed Control, and let their years of experience turn up your awesome!
About the mentors
Brothers Graeme and Jody Peters started the band in 2010 launching their first album, The A.D.D. Sides, with a 16-date Western Canadian tour. 2012 saw the band release FAB and with that came their first national tour with stops from Whitehorse, Yukon to Toronto, Ontario. 2017 saw the release of SPEED CONTROL, an 11-song album with 3 singles: "Still Standing", "The Deception of Reality" and "TENT CITY." 2018 and 2019 have seen the band touring upwards of six months a year and playing between 150–250 shows per year. Then came, well, you know, and while off the road they shifted to doing digital shows and teaching in high schools plus writing, recording, then releasing videos and singles with the newest EP, Let Me Out! released in spring of 2022. 3. Come Together: The Art of the Jam with Sami Ghawi
We're bringing a jam to Band-Aid, and we’re going to rock out! Bring your guitar, bass, drumsticks, horns or voice. We’ll put together bands of four to six members each, and each band will get to play songs and jam out on chord progressions in three to five-minute segments.
This workshop is for aspiring musicians who have never or rarely jammed with others and want to break the ice. We will focus on listening to the groove, chord progression, space between instruments, voice, intention and so much more!
About the mentor
Sami Ghawi is the director of entertainment company FUSIONpresents and director of artist development. He works with artists of all ages and has run youth jams like the Sunday Night Jam at West Beach for over ten years. He has mentored hundreds of artists since creating FUSIONpresents in 2002 and will bring his 20+ years of experience to you!
