Engage with thought-provoking perspectives in an open space for critical inquiry and nuanced reflection.
Ileanna Sophia Cheladyn got lost in a year of ethnographic fieldwork in the dance community she’s called home for over a decade: the indie/experimental/contemporary/?? dance world of Vancouver.
Now, she fields questions from the field. Invisible forces, shifting relations, and the subtle ways bodies register change. A field can be land, a branch of knowledge, a zone of influence, or the space where a force takes hold. Here, it’s all of these at once.
This is a talk that thinks through fields that think about (other) fields, noticing how one field’s logic brushes against another’s. Be it the fields of anthropology and dance, or the fields of her gestures and ours. Each contact sparks a different choreography of bodies, bodyings, things to think with, and ways of knowing.
