Minimalist pioneer Terry Riley turned 90 this year; we’ll play his entrancing 1989 work Half-Wolf Dances Mad in Moonlight, as arranged by Marcus Goddard. Standing Wave pays tribute to Keith Hamel, who has enriched Vancouver’s musical life for decades and who retired from UBC this year, with a performance of Dreamer (2017).
Emerging composer Mariah Mennie’s ethereal …and the moon rang like a bell (2025), and Mason Bates’ epic Difficult Bamboo (2014), from our newly released album Elusive Things round out the program.
This concert is generously sponsored by Elizabeth & Alan Bell
