For her Vancouver debut at the Chan Centre, she performs music from Nilam—a luminous new work that coalesces lullaby, poetry, and prayer into powerful, poignant music.
Through improvisation, storytelling, and sacred sound, ganavya’s music offers a space of deep listening, healing, and belonging. We invite you to enter her world for an evening of profound artistry and spiritual connection.
For her Chan Centre appearance, she performs music from her transformative album Daughter of a Temple—a sprawling, devotional sonic tapestry drawing from spiritual jazz, Hindu traditions, and collective ritual.
Born in New York and raised in Tamil Nadu, ganavya grew up immersed in a culture of community. Inspired by Alice Coltrane Turiyasangitananda and her devotional approach to music, Daughter of a Temple was born from a week-long retreat where a cadre of visionary artists joined her, including Esperanza Spalding, Vijay Iyer, and Shabaka Hutchings. The result is a powerful album that “soars from gentle ambience to stirring takes on spiritual staples” and showcases the “emotive capacity of her acrobatic voice.” (The Guardian)
