This year, the Indigenous Opening presents a dynamic lineup blending tradition and contemporary sounds, including Good Medicine Songs, a bilingual project in Halq’eméylem (Stó:lō Nation) and English; The Spiritual Warriors, a reggae band performing in U’cwalmicwts (Lil’wat Nation); and Handsome Tiger, an Anishinaabe Métis and North African DJ/producer who fuses traditional sounds from his heritage with electronic music.
As a festival centred on mother tongue-based music, JMF invites communities to come together in solidarity and experience the power of music across cultures and generations.
