Formosa String Quartet’s players are mavericks in the classical genre—all young, energetic, and award-winning musicians—and the force behind brilliant new compositions with a reputation for delivering fresh, exciting concerts. This concert features the Vancouver premiere of Chinese-American composer Lei Liang’s Recollections. Described as “something sublime, often breathtaking” (San Diego Union-Tribune), it builds on the folk song traditions of Taiwan’s aboriginal tribes to create a stunning modern masterpiece. The program also includes string quartet classics.
