Dismantling the music of Grimes, Montreal’s Plumes Ensemble makes its debut appearance in Vancouver, performing responses by 13 celebrated Canadian composers to songs by one of Canada’s top electronic artists.
Grimes’ airy cyborg pop tunes on her third release Visions (2012) are decoded as composers draw elements and motifs to form creations that subverts, deconstructs, and embraces her inimitable new wave vision. With music by Nicole Lizée, Giorgio Magnanensi, Emilie LeBel, Cassandra Miller, and more.
Plumes Ensemble:
Veronica Charnley (vocals)
Louise Campbell (clarinet and bass clarinet)
Éveline Grégoire-Rousseau (harp)
Pemi Paull (viola)
Geof Holbrook (keyboards, electric guitar, electronics)
