The extensive run will take the GRAMMY®-nominated U.K. band to arenas and theatres across the U.S. and Canada, including a March 30 show at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY.
The band is touring in support of its sophomore album, Wild World (Virgin Records), which debuted in the Top 5 of the Billboard 200 and spent two weeks at No. 1 on the U.K. albums chart.
Wild World is the follow-up to 2013’s Bad Blood, which also debuted at No. 1 on the U.K. albums chart. Bad Blood has sold more than four million albums worldwide alongside 11 million singles.
“Good Grief,” the first single from Wild World, has more than 39 million streams globally on Spotify to date, including seven million in the U.S. alone. In the U.K., the track reached No. 1 on Apple Music’s Hot Tracks chart and the Shazam chart.
Rolling Stone hailed Bastille as “Brit pop’s new crown princes” and noted, “‘Wild World’ has stadium ambitions.” Entertainment Weekly observed, “The UK foursome expanded their influences with dizzying effects…EDM-style builds and drops propel enormous hooks, while handclap rhythms and drum machines carry sunny sing-alongs.” Q Magazine awarded it four stars and noted, “[Bastille’s] timely second album hits the right spot.”
In another four-star review, DIY Magazine observed, “Opener ‘Good Grief’ sets the tone brilliantly, its pomp and grandeur juxtaposed perfectly with Dan Smith’s dark-tinged tale of coping with life after death.”
Dan Smith started Bastille alone in his bedroom five years ago, releasing 300 copies of debut single “Flaws/Icarus.” Joined by Chris Wood (drums), Will Farquarson (guitar) and Kyle Simmons (keyboards), the band line-up was complete. Bastille’s debut album, Bad Blood, contained the 5x Platinum single “Pompeii” and the Gold-certified tracks “Bad Blood” and “Flaws.” “Pompeii” topped Billboard’s Alternative Songs, Hot Rock Songs, Adult Alternative Songs and Dance Club Songs charts.
BASTILLE IN CONCERT:
Fans lucky enough to catch Bastille on their 2013/14 world tour can count their lucky stars —as one of the fastest rising groups in British music, the band's days of performing in smaller venues are certainly numbered. Boasting good looks and a winning blend of indie rock, hip hop, and synthpop, the four chaps from London have a knack for connecting with audiences at their carousing live concerts, entering the crowd to mingle with adoring fans and pose for the occasional mid-set photo op. With a string of highly anticipated US tour dates and a Coachella appearance in 2014, Bastille are well on their way to storming the American mainstream.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
Bastille formed around the solo project of singer-songwriter Dan Smith, who shares his birthday with France's historic Bastille Day. The band's 2010 debut single "Flaws" was an underground hit, leading to a 2012 deal with Virgin records that resulted in the band's 2013 debut LP Bad Blood. The album peaked at No. 1 on the UK Albums Chart and spawned six singles, including the international No. 1 "Pompeii." A reissue and remix version of the album in late 2013 drummed up anticipation for the band's 2014 world tour.
