Held in Vancouver, Canada, the city known as “Hollywood North,” GPIFF was founded in June 2013 by Orient Star Media Inc. and was formerly known as the Golden Panda North America International Short Film Festival. Its core mission is to become a North America-based, internationally-minded festival that serves as a springboard to the careers of young filmmaking talent around the world.
Organized by the GPIFF Committee, China Network Television and Orient Star Media Inc., GPIFF contains various stages including Film Submission, Public Screening, Campus Events, Jury Selection, Golden Panda Film Industry Forum, Red Carpet and Private Cocktail Party, Awards Ceremony, and Golden Panda International Filmmakers Cultural Immersion Trip.
Six awards, including Best Picture, Best Humanistic Vision, Best Animated Short Film, Best Director, Best Screenplay and Special Jury Award are presented at the festival. As rewards, one representative from each production team of award-winning films will have an opportunity to join the one-week-long Golden Panda International Filmmakers Cultural Immersion Trip.
Since its inauguration in 2013, the world has seen GPIFF growing exponentially from receiving 65 submissions across five countries for the first year to taking in more than 200 entries form all across the world for the year following. The 2014 GPIFF Awards Ceremony welcomed more than 800 distinguished guests, film professionals, and audience members to celebrate the talent and creativity of six winning filmmakers. Following the success of previous two years' festivals, the 2015 GPIFF obtained a total number of 865 works from over 70 countries.
A registered not-for-profit organization, GPIFF champions the humanistic perspective in filmmaking and aims to build a hub where professionals can exchange experiences and insights regarding today’s industry. It strives to become a globally recognized film festival and a leader in film culture in the future.
