Information on The Festival
Based on the themes of Engage, Act, Create and Rise, the four-chapter ceremony will bring to the audience an unforgettable night of excellent performances.
A recent addition to Vancouver’s booming film scene, GPIFF has had, in the past three years, the privilege to support an array of talented and passionate young filmmakers from across the world. That’s why this year’s GPIFF Awards Ceremony is dedicated to celebrating the hard work of countless filmmaking professionals who hold their dreams dearly.
What does it take to become a successful filmmaker? Former GPIFF award winner, U.S.-based actor, and writer Gabriel Furman will share his journey growing as a young filmmaker. Despite having played in the same film with Academy and Golden Globe winner Melissa Leo in the short film Mother’s Day, which also won the Special Jury Award in last year’s GPIFF, surviving in the highly competitive film industry is not always as glamorous as it seems to be.
Apart from various performances, the ceremony also features a premiere of all award-winning films. This year’s GPIFF received a total number of 376 submissions from 38 countries worldwide. All winning films are carefully selected by the 2016 GPIFF Jury, which is formed by established film professionals and educators from Britain, Canada, China, Italy and U.S. The screening provides the audience with a special chance to enjoy some of the best short films in today’s world.
The inaugural GPIFF Private Cocktail Party offers the guests and audiences a great networking opportunity with some of the leading forces in today’s global film industry joining the party.
Some of the guests include Chair of Directors Guild of Great Britain Ivor Benjamin, Professor at University of Southern California’s School of Cinematic Arts Ellen Seiter, President of Beijing Film Academy Zhang Huijun as well as representatives from film investment companies, studios, equipment suppliers and tech companies.
