Based in North Vancouver, B.C., the Black Bear Band was formed in September 2004 under the Direction of Mr. Ken Osterreicher, former Director of Bands at Argyle Secondary School.
While its original purpose was to meet the pent-up social and musical needs of a few adults who hadn’t been “invited out to play” for a long time, the band has in fact attracted adults of all ages and abilities and continues to grow in membership with each passing year. At present, the ensemble numbers at approximately 60 members.
Currently under the musical and artistic direction of Maestro Rob McLeod – Highschool Administrator and professional Low Brass educator and performer in the Vancouver area - the Black Bear Band rehearses and performs a variety of concert band pieces spanning genres from classical to contemporary, and typically performs 8-10 times publically per year.
