In 2016 we were the 4th largest GGJ site in the world — this year, we’re expanding. With the move from one to two atriums, we’ll be able to accept more jammers, and also have designated spaces for teams using room-scale VR hardware. Come join the fun with the rest of the Vancouver gaming community!
Come join us for a weekend of teamwork, collaboration, creativity, friendship, and exploration! From January 20 to 22, 2017, we'll take over two giant atriums at UBC and make games in 48 hours.
Wait, what's Global Game Jam?
The Global Game Jam® (GGJ) is the world's largest game jam event taking place around the world at physical locations. This is the registration page for the Vancouver, BC, Canada jam.
The GGJ encourages people with all kinds of backgrounds to participate and contribute to this global spread of game development and creativity. The jam is known for helping foster new friendships, increase confidence and opportunities within the community. The jam is always an intellectual challenge. People are invited to explore new technology tools, try new roles in development, and test their skills. Jammers work in teams to design, develop, test and make a new game in the time span of 48 hours.
What do I get with my jammer ticket?
With your jammer ticket, you get space to jam, a special GGJ 2017 t-shirt, and three meals: Friday dinner, Saturday dinner, and Sunday pizza party. We also provide copious amounts of coffee during the entire 48 hours.
What's new for the Vancouver jam in 2017?
We had nearly 400 people last year (with a long waitlist), and for 2017 we've decided to expand -- we'll be in the same building, but now in both atriums. Not only does this mean a little more space to work in for each individual jammer, but we now have room for 150+ more jammers!
What if I want to jam in VR?
Good news! With our increase in space, we've been able to dedicate sections of each atrium for room-scale setups (specifically for HTC Vive, but let us know if you have other hardware with specific requirements). You'll have to bring your own equipment, but we'll make sure you have the space to do it, with minimal crosstalk. Make sure to email us if you're planning to make use of these spaces, as they're limited!
