In a documentary on the subject a high school student said, “To be the drum major of a high school band in the city of New Orleans is better than being the captain of the football team.” New Orleans also has a rich history of R&B, funk, pop, blues, rock and roll, and even classical music. From Gottschalk to Galactic, the city has produced fresh and exciting sounds that have influenced musicians worldwide. The history of New Orleans music is, in truth, a vibrant microcosm of American music as a whole with influences from Spain, Africa, France, Germany and the Creole from the Carribean. Join “A” Band, NiteCap and Faculty Guests for a special night filled with the sounds of New Orleans, from Louis Armstrong, Jelly Roll Morton, King Oliver, Buddy Bolden and Sidney Bechet to brass band music, Dixieland, R&B, funk and more.
