The adventure begins with a short indoor session that includes learning about birds, how to identify them and practice using binoculars. We then head outdoors, and each participant (and accompanying parent) will be part of a small birding team led by an experienced birder. Each team will conduct a 45 minute bird survey in Stanley Park, recording the number of bird species and individuals seen. After the survey all teams will meet up again for lunch and we'll tally up all the bird numbers and compare sightings.
This family event is suitable for children ages 5-12 and children must be accompanied by an adult.
What to bring:
- Warm clothes, rain gear and appropriate footwear
- Binoculars and bird field guide if available (otherwise provided)
- Bagged lunch and water
The event is co-sponsored by Bird Studies Canada, NatureKids BC and Stanley Park Ecology Society and it's made possible by a grant from Nature Canada through their NatureHood Program.
