On Nov 7th we lost one of music’s most revered and prolific visionaries. Legendary poet, songwriter and artist, Leonard Cohen, touched so many with his body of work that spanned almost fifty years.

Vancouver soul dynamo Dawn Pemberton has a deep musical foundation rooted in tradition. A staple of the West Coast music scene, Dawn can be found tearing it up as a vocalist, arranger, and go-to for live performances and studio sessions, she is the director of the Roots N Wings Women's choir.

At any given moment, there are so many sounds competing for our attention that it’s easy to get overwhelmed and hear nothing. But, every now and then, a voice comes along that cuts through all the random noise and clatter, a voice that makes you stop and really listen because whatever you were doing up until that point isn’t as important as listening to it and letting it take you where it wants to go.
TJ DAWE
TJ Dawe is an award winning (and published) writer/performer/director. Current projects: Burn Job, PostSecret: the Show, and One Woman Sex and the City: a Parody on Love, Friendship and Shoes. Various credits include Medicine, Marathon, The Slipknot, The Power of Ignorance, Lucky 9, 52 Pick-up and Dishpig. He did a TEDx talk. He co-wrote the play Toothpaste and Cigars, which has been made into the movie The F Word, starring Daniel Radcliffe. His twitter handle is @TJ_Dawe.
BRENDAN MCLEOD (The Fugitives)
Brendan McLeod is a Canadian writer, spoken word artist, and musician. He is the author of one novel, The Convictions of Leonard McKinley, a one woman play, The Big Oops, and two monologues, the most recent of which is his award-winning piece on consciousness Brain. He is the founder of The Fugitives, a folk group signed to Light Organ Records, that tours internationally and have been nominated for multiple Canadian Folk Music Awards and a Western Canadian Music Award. He is a former Canadian SLAM poetry champion and World SLAM runner-up. He was the 2012 Poet of Honor at the Canadian Festival of Spoken Word and the 2015 Poet of Honour at the Victoria Spoken Word Festival.
CASS KING
Cass is one of The Wet Spots, Vancouver's sex positive musical comedy duo, who won the 2009 "Best Cabaret" award at the Adelaide Fringe Festival in Australia. An international touring artist, Cass has performed at the Sydney Opera House, in London's West End, and at Toronto's Massey Hall. Her project SHINE: A Burlesque Musical was produced in Seattle, at the New York Fringe, and in Vancouver where it won an Ovation Award for Outstanding New Musical. Cass is proud to have started Cass King and the Next Right Thing, her first rock band, in her forties.
COMPANY B (trio)
Company B Jazz Band is Vancouver’s foremost vintage jazz harmony group, featuring a female vocal trio (à la the Andrews and Boswell Sisters) framed by clarinet/sax, guitar, and upright bass, “the Company” has been entertaining the masses since 2007 with their tight blend, driving rhythms, creative arrangements, sharp image, and charming wit. To date, the group has released 3 albums and performed all over their native British Columbia as well as the USA and China.
MARIN PATENAUDE
Marin was raised in a house full of music and siblings in the small northern town of Horsefly, British Columbia. Much like the von Trapps, Marin and her sisters sang three-part harmony with their father and spent a large portion of their childhood touring festivals as the Patenaude Family. She spent many years bending her will under a whip-cracking opera trainer, resulting in many tears and three consecutive years with the highest-ranking Royal Conservatory exam scores in British Columbia. A voice like an angel with a soul too gritty for the classical world, she picked up a guitar and turned to writing as a source of counsel during the grey Vancouver winters, dabbling with songs about politics and environmental issues but with age has matured an unparalleled truth and honesty in writing about love. Sometimes we want to say something and don’t know how. Marin can sing it.
HANK PINE
As a musician, Hank has voraciously toured North America and Europe countless times with his vaudeville-themed cabaret show based upon his hit comic book series ‘The Hank and Lily Show’, since their inception in 2004Hank Pine works a sleek comic book style with resonant cello music, with lyrics that have something to say into a unique and timely mixture of talent. As an author and illustrator of several books and comics, he has published ‘The Little Book of Dying‘ and ‘61 Fun‘ as well as several Hank and Lily based comic books. His illustrations have appeared in magazines, graphic art collections, and even a coffee table book!
TWIN BANDIT
Some music is so peaceful it seems like it’s an unreal glimpse of calmness and serenity. That’s the tender feeling evoked by Hannah Walker and Jamie Elliott who make up Twin Bandit.
"Twin Bandit alchemize a whole new kind of musical gold with their gorgeous vocals as they sing about heartbreak, joy, and emotional arsonists,” describes Mark Jowett of Nettwerk Music. Drawing from the quiet folk giants that lay the foundation for this style, the duo can be likened to First Aid Kit, Fleetwood Mac and Daniel Lanois.
