Eagle Spirit is Yvonne Chartrand latest contemporary dance work that explores the sudden and literal abundance of eagle feathers that Yvonne encountered during the illness and passing of her mother. Led by master jigger Yvonne Chartrand, the Louis Riel Métis Dancers will once again provide energy and heart with traditional Métis jigging. The Louis Riel Métis Dancers will be accompanied by the music of JJ Lavallee and his band. V’ni Dansi is excited to welcome Juno-nominated and WCMA-winner musician Don Amero. In addition to honouring Louis Riel, the evening is a chance to celebrate the vitality of contemporary Métis culture both locally and across Canada. Hosted by award-winning filmmaker, writer and teacher, Greg Coyes. V’ni Dansi is the only company in Canada dedicated to teaching and performing traditional Métis as well as contemporary dance. The company shares Métis stories and culture with all nations with a special interest in passing on dances to today’s youth.
