Yūko-Kai is TomoeArts' regular concert of nihon buyoh (Japanese Classical Dance) honouring the legacy of Artistic Director, Colleen Lanki's first dance teacher, Fujima Yūko. "Kai" means group or gathering, so "Yūko-Kai" means "a gathering for Yūko."
This year's concert is an intimate studio showing of dances learned from Colleen's current teacher Fujima Shōgo, who has performed in Vancouver multiple times. Longtime TomoeArts member and student Ryan Caron recently spent six months training with Shōgo-sensei in Tokyo, and this concert highlights the work he did there.
