Abstract and organic, these textile paintings evoke the deepness of the ocean and life at the encounter between water and earth. Flow, blood, sap, tears, rain, life. We are living water.
Diego lives and works in Gibsons BC, and Calanoa, Columbian Amazon. As an artist and designer whose work turns around the dialogue between humankind and nature, Diego works in different media: photography, video, painting, artist's books and sculpture. With a background in biology and anthropology, his lifelong interest in natural history and tribal cultures are reflected in all of his work. In his 40 years of experience in nature and ethnographic photography, he has completed projects commissioned by the Smithsonian Institution Press, National Geographic, Planeta Humano, Artes de México and some other international publishers. His work has been shown in solo and collective exhibitions in Europe, North and South America, Asia and Africa. Most recently his work was featured in Water, the 2016 Sechelt Arts Festival.
In March 2017, Diego will also be exhibiting sound installation and film work at the Museum of Anthropology along with indigenous artifacts he has collected with wife, Marlene Samper, during extended expeditions to the rain forest.
