Each year, RED Talks curators select an idea theme important to Vancouver. The chosen theme provides a backdrop to the dialogue, conversations and debates on the stage and within the experience. Explore this year’s idea theme: Confronting Consensus.
Bike lanes, building permits, business licenses. 18 stories or 48 stories? Tree-line boulevards pitted against park space for families. The role of data versus the use of intuition. How does a city perfect its decision-making to create the happiest, most liveable place for its citizens? The spectrum of democracy, from decisive leadership to harmonious consensus can prove tricky. Combined with hugely varying expectations of its dwellers, city design is also heavily influenced by both protective NIMBY and inclusive YIMBY attitudes. What does this mean for the future of Vancouver?
