Party like it's 1984... Video, dance music, and art installations surround the senses in a sonic molotov thrown at capital. All welcome for this party on Commercial Drive, steps form the Skytrain Station.
"At the dances I was one of the most untiring and gayest. One evening a cousin of Sasha, a young boy, took me aside. With a grave face, as if he were about to announce the death of a dear comrade, he whispered to me that it did not behoove an agitator to dance. Certainly not with such reckless abandon, anyway. I did not believe that a Cause which stood for a beautiful ideal, for anarchism, for release and freedom from convention and prejudice, should demand the denial of life and joy. I insisted that our Cause could not expect me to become a nun and that the movement would not be turned into a cloister. If it meant that, I did not want it. DJ DON CHOW
Don Chow is a Vancouver-born artist, actor and musician who was a pioneering DJ and music director at CITR-FM during the creative heyday of independent music and college radio. He created the influential DJ Sound War series of rap and street art competitions in the early 1990s, and has worked with artists including Heri Dono, Fred Ho, Harry Aoki, Kyoto Jazz Massive, Mark Stewart, Augustus Pablo and Derrick May. He has released and performed music locally and internationally, on his own limited vinyl/cassette imprints as well as the iconic Transmat label, and his activities can be linked to the original musicians and producers of hip-hop, house and techno music
DJ Krusheska
Krusheska Quirós is an afro-taina from Boriken. As a migrant settler on the unceded territories of the Musqueam, Tsleil-Waututh, and Squamish Coast Salish people, she is learning the impact of her migration and strives to apply this learning in actions that support those first nations groups in their own land. Krusheska grew up with music and enjoys sharing it with others. She is the creator, sound editor and co-producer of Suena a Revolución, an independent project that presents music of various genres from Latin America and the Caribbean with lyrics that showcase different aspects of activism for social justice. One of her aims is to highlight the importance of music within social movements and to share the music of those who use it as a tool for social change and archive of historic memory. Another of her aims is to get people to dance to that music.

Gracias a mi mamá y a mi papá me críe escuchando música de diferentes géneros y países. Mi meta es proveer una tarima para esxs activistas que trabajan por la justicia social al igual que continuar el aprendizaje acerca de las luchas en Latino América y la relevancia que la música tiene dentro de los movimientos sociales y comunitarios en la región. En adición, tengo la intención de hacer llegar sus mensajes a oyentes de habla hispana que viven alrededor de todo el mundo, trasmitiendo noticias a través de la música así como originalmente se usaba la Plena, uno de los ritmos tradicionales de mi país.
DJ YOUNG DENE
youngDene is an emerging Indigenous dance music selektah from the Canadian North living uninvited in the territories of the musqueam, squamish and tsleil-waututh nations. His style is a product of living and dancing in east vancouver over the years, and crosses boundaries between four four and broken beats ranging from house and kuduro to hip hop, dub, dancehall and bass music.

Dutch settler artist, curator, and parent living in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside. He is a Graduate researcher at SFU in media and cultural studies, and an Associate with the SFU Institute for Humanities. For 35 years has been throwing local parties and actions.
