The final concert of the 34th season is titled Coming Home. This themed concert will feature selections that consider the concept and meaning of “home.”
Date/Time: May 6 2017, 7:30 pm to 9:00 pm
Vancouver, Dunbar Ryerson United ChurchCost: $30.00
The tale of King David and his son Absalom is presented in two contrasting settings: Tomkins’ is one of the most famous settings among Renaissance polyphony, and Dinerstein’s is a compelling and highly-charged modern setting. As well, the song of Ruth considers an alternate view on homeland and family; it is set by Paul Ayers (“wither thou goest, there will I go…thy people will be my people”). Langager’s new setting of the famous poem A Passionate Shepherd to His Love by Christopher Marlowe sets the text, “Come live with me, and be my love…” The concert concludes with a set of Canadian folk songs, including the Alberta Cowboy Songs by Trent Worthington, and a tribute to the Mohawk nation by Mark Sirett.
