Dust off your Power Glove and fire up Double Dragon, because The Gentlemen Hecklers are bringing hilarity to the Nintendo-lovin' 80s kids movie THE WIZARD via the big screen on Wednesday, May 10th!!
THE WIZARD (Todd Holland, 1989 / 100 mins / PG) A boy and his brother run away from home and hitch cross country with the help of a girl they meet to compete in the ultimate video game championship.
Let The Gentlemen Hecklers provide you with their unique brand of live, hilarious commentary – for the best cheesy movies! Eric Fell, Patrick Maliha, and Shaun Stewart are Vancouver’s masters of movie riffing, making so-bad-they’re-good movies even better by talking you through them.
THE WIZARD (1989)
Fred Savage stars as Corey (it was the 80s... of course he was a Corey!), a kid who refuses to let his younger, emotionally disturbed half-brother Jimmy (Luke Edwards) be institutionalized, opting instead to run away together. (This could be construed as kidnapping but... Let the Hecklers discuss it.) They soon join forces with a resourceful girl (Jenny Lewis, in her pre-Rilo Kiley days), who notices that Jimmy has a special talent: he is a "wizard" at video games, and can achieve the high score on absolutely everything he plays. Evading their parents and a sinister bounty hunter, the trio hitchhike their way across America as they head for a climactic showdown at the national video game championship - and $50,000 - in California.
Never been to a show and not familiar with what the Gentlemen Hecklers do? Well, then why not swing on over to the Netflix and check out Mystery Science Theatre 3000: The Return! The boys co-wrote Episode 2: Cry Wilderness!!
