Jocelyn Bell was an Irish post-graduate student at Cambridge University when she made an incredible discovery while going over some radio astronomical data. It seemed to be a strong signal that couldn't have been made by any source known at the time, so she labeled the signal L.G.M. for Little Green Men. What she actually discovered though was a real universal phenomenon so bizarre it could have been taken right out of science ficiton.
