“One of CanLit’s most innovative chameleons.” – Quill and Quire on Anosh Irani
“I don’t really know how Malla gets away with what he does, but it is astounding to watch him do it.” – The Rumpus on Pasha Malla
In Trillium Award-winning writer Pasha Malla’s ‘Fugue States’, Ash, a radio host, comes across a mysterious document while sorting through his dead father’s belongings. His father Brij, a Kashmir-born doctor has left behind a half-completed and utterly baffling work of fiction set (possibly) in Kashmir… ‘Fugue States’ is at once a parody of clueless tourism and western meddling in world affairs, and a subtle study of the deep melancholy that abides in people who, like Ash and his father, have never felt completely at home in the world.
Shortlisted for the Governor General’s Award, Anosh Irani’s ‘Parcel’ is a powerful, dark and compassionate novel about a close-knit and marginalized community of transgender sex workers in Mumbai’s red-light district. When Irani’s protagonist, Madhu, is asked to undertake an unexpected task, it unleashes a spiral of emotions and histories that threaten to unravel a lifetime’s work and identity.
