“...an outstanding cultural hybrid of unexpected storytelling traditions.” – The Smithsonian
Arthur Flowers is a literary bluesman who performs in the oral storytelling tradition of the griots, where literature, myth-work, destiny and magical realism meet.
Arthur comes from Memphis, Tennessee – where Martin Luther King gave his last address ‘I’ve been to the mountaintop…’ before being assassinated. Seven years ago he collaborated with Indian scroll painter Manu Chitrakar, who paints in the tradition of the ‘patua’ wandering minstrels of West Bengal to create a stunning, impassioned and multi-dimensional biography of Martin Luther King Jr.
Listen to this master storyteller as he performs the story of King and others from his repertoire, taking us back to a time when the storyteller was singer, satirist and magician, all rolled into one.
