Still Moon Arts Society will be participating in this years Youth Celebrate Canada Day, at Renfrew Park Community Centre.
Date/Time: Jul 1 2017, 11:00 am to 4:00 pm
Vancouver, Renfrew Park Community Centre
Still Moon Arts Society acknowledges that we, and this festival, are on the unceded, occupied, and traditional lands of the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), Xʷməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam), Səl̓ílwətaʔ (Tsleil-Waututh), and Stó:lō nations, and for this we are thankful.
Join Still Moon Arts an hour before the fun and games start, to collect himilayan blackberry for weaving textile. Himalayan blackberry is an invasive plant that threatens local ecosystems. Historically, local cedar bark and cattails were used for traditional weaving, but these species are now unsustainable to harvest in urban areas. The inner fibres of of himalayan blackberry happen to have very similar weaving textile properties, so you can simultaneously improve local park ecosystems and collect arts material.
Please wear closed-toe shoes, and bring leather gloves if you have them.
We will be continuing to collect blackberry throughout the festival, so come see the Still Moon booth if you can't make it in the morning. Through creating art, restoring environment, and building community, Still Moon commits to facilitating spaces for understanding and for knowledge sharing. This work will acknowledge and respect the contexts of the past and the present.
