To paraphrase Pablo Neruda: “Mexico lives in its markets...”.
Markets, or mercados, have been a fixture in Mexico since pre-Hispanic times—Mexico City has over 300 markets alone, all with their own unique flavour and offerings. At Market Mexico attendees can expect to be transported to one of these and experience the sights and sounds of a real Mexican-style market. Attendees will be able to enjoy market staples such as tacos, tortas, and elotes (Mexican corn); indulge in sweet treats like horchata, pastries, and churros; sip on aguas frescas, agave spirits, and micheladas in the cantina; and purchase Mexican-inspired artisanal items, dried goods, and produce.
In addition to the market, the event will also feature music, film programming, and a Mexican market virtual reality experience that was produced by the Mexico Tourism Board.
At 6:00pm, in honour of Mexican Independence Day, Consul General Berenice Diaz-Ceballos will give a traditional Mexican Grito (shout of joy).
