How far would you go to get an A? In this masterful high school thriller, kids memorize codes, hijack printing presses and recruit a squad of motorbike couriers—all in order to cheat on their exams. Things start off smalltime: Lynn (Chutimon Chuengcharoensukying) is a shy and stern math ace, out of place at the posh private academy to which she’s won a scholarship. Pressured into helping a classmate cheat, she discovers that there are social and financial rewards for cutting corners at school. Things snowball from there, with more and more students willing to pay her, and when she finds out just how corrupt her high school administration is, all bets are off.
This is definitely not your average teen flick—it’s plotted and paced like a heist film, with interrogation scenes, a race against the clock and even a low-key subway chase. The tension and intrigue start off early, and the climax is a master class in suspense. Lynn’s cheating methods are ingenious, and watching them get more and more elaborate makes for great fun. Should we be rooting for these kids? That’s a question viewers have to answer for themselves, but any way you slice it, this is a gripping film and a razor-sharp satire.
