7:30 SHOW
National Anthem
National Anthem is an improv group based in Vancouver that performs high energy, story-driven long form improv. They bounce between grounded and absurd comedy, but always focus on the journey and growth of the characters and worlds they create.
National Anthem was selected to take part in Instant Theatre’s 2015 Cagematch Tournament in Vancouver and UCB’s 17th Annual Del Close Marathon in New York.
Festival Ensemble "Bravo".
The International Ensembles are an opportunity for individual improvisers the world over to spend a week workshopping new and new-to-them improv forms. Dozens of performers apply for a handful of spots and work with guest directors to create evening performances live for you, our audience.
The International Ensembles are groups of people who will likely never all work together again. In some cases, you’d have to travel pretty far to see any of them on their home turf. Now you can enjoy all of them, on one stage, at one time, without even leaving your seat.
9:30 SHOW
The Sunday Service
Favouring discovery over structure, the group builds, demolishes, and builds again an absurd patchwork of scenes and stories. Using strong narratives and character work to ground their set, the group dips in and out of meta-comedy, rock opera, word play and even slapstick shtick.
Their high energy and commitment to comedy carries the audience through a kaleidoscopic trip; watching scenes barrel into tangents and stories smash together to create a piece that holds the collective spirit to its highest regard, and puts a big ol’ goofy shoe down to show everyone they’re not so serious!
Bloody Marys
The Bloody Marys is improv comedy at it’s most delightful and most bloody. No doubt love will be found, followed immediately by a dead body. Compromised of beloved weirdos and Second City Toronto Mainstage Alumni Leigh Cameron and Kirsten Rasmussen. Dark, physical, goofy and hilarious, you don’t wanna miss The Bloody Marys.
Broke Gravy
When Chris Williams, Eric Simons, and Leon Anderson hit the stage, they do so with ears, eyes, and minds wide open. First by interacting with the audience beyond the usual peg, they launch into a set where the smallest dot in one scene can take on the focus of a solar system in the next. Unique, fearless, fast, and patient, Broke Gravy is a feast you won’t soon forget.
