Maudie is based on the true story of early 20th century painter Maud Lewis who overcame the physical challenges of juvenile rheumatoid arthritis to become one of Canada’s premier folk artists. Her story starts with an unlikely romance with a proud and self-sufficient recluse named Everett Lewis who hires Maud as a live-in housekeeper. As Maud’s fame as an artist increases, Everett starts to realize how much he needs Maud and is forced to face his fears of abandonment in order to let love into his life.
