This show is a very special one for the Rogue Folk Club. It's the culmination of our very first ever Silent Auction, possibly the biggest fundraising initiative we've ever undertaken. By that time, you will have had the opportunity to bid on dozens of great items on-line. (See www.roguefolk.bc.ca/auction for more information about that.) You'll also be able to bid on the items at the Hall on November 25th, and the winners of the major items will be announced. Each person will receive a ticket for a free beverage of their choice, and there will be some munchies available. As if that wasn't enough, there will be a specially selected bill of entertainment to help you Party Like It's 2017!
We've secured a very important person to entertain you that night - Stephen Fearing. Stephen describes himself this way: "I'm a musician, a singer/songwriter, a producer, a guitar player, a photographer, troubadour and traveller, a gypsy with a driver's license and a camera, one third of Blackie and The Rodeo Kings and one half of Fearing & White. We'd like add a couple of other things to that list: Stephen was our first ever official presentation as the Rogue Folk Club, at the old Savoy nightclub in Gastown on Sunday, May 10th 1987. (To hear a song from that first Rogue concert, just click on this link .... Stephen Fearing - Build Me A Home In The Country.) Also, Stephen is Member #1 - the first person to ever take out a membership in the Club!
Also appearing will be Marin Patenaude. With already extensive training in voice and piano, she has been compared to Joni Mitchell, k.d. lang and Bonnie Raitt. The combination of good taste, training, and a hefty amount of inner turmoil results in music that demands listening. Profound poetry delivered by sultry and nostalgic melody expose feelings and sensations that only a song can describe.
Accomplished Celtic fiddler Gabriel Dubreuil and his trio will grace our stage as well. Gabriel Dubreuil is a classical, folk and jazz violinist from North Vancouver. Described as “fast-rising” (The Georgia Straight) and a “coup-de-coeur” (Radio-Canada/CBC), the Gabriel Dubreuil Trio brings an innovative fusion of music from the Celtic and North American fiddle traditions and jazz to the stage. Rounding out the trio are Michael Meroniuk (guitar & mandolin) and Chad Galpin (bass). Gabriel released his debut album Back To Back Bay just last year.
Ending off the evening will be country/bluegrass band The Honky-Tonk Dilettantes with a set of foot-stompin' dance tunes. They are an eclectic acoustic roots group that loves to sing and play good old fashioned country music, bluegrass, Western/Texas swing, and whatever else strikes their fancy. Their tight vocal harmonies will bring a smile to your face and a tear to your eye. Starting as a trio, they have expanded to include steel guitar and percussion players in their shows.
Come one, come all for a night to remember!
