Blue Moon Marquee
Jazz clubs and crowded bar rooms. Low light and Blue smoke. Blue Moon Marquee has a sound largely influenced by old delta blues, swing, jazz and ragtime "The spirits of Memphis Minnie, Louis Armstrong, Charlie Patton, Howlin’ Wolf, Lightnin’ Hopkins, Bukka White and many others haunt the musical offerings of Blue Moon Marquee." - BC Musician
"Blue Moon Marquee have their own completely original style. Modern Blues doesn't really get any better than this. This is a tremendous sound by a hugely talented duo who have found a way to update an ages old musical genre for the new century whilst remaining true to their roots and the genre originators" American Roots UK
Mike Crate Bandits
The Milk Crate Bandits make music to make you dance, smile and party. It’s music born on the streets. Walking down the streets of Vancouver you’ll see them on their stolen plastic thrones and playing the sounds of New Orleans. Yes, some may say they’re crooks but the petty theft of a milk crate from a back alley is surely absolved by the love they’ll give you if you come and listen. The joy of the music will make you jump, holler and shout and some even say that being party to a misdemeanour makes it all the more fun!
In October 2016 the Milk Crate Bandits travelled to New Orleans to record two EPs with New Orleans great Kevin Louis on Trumpet. The first, 'The Neighbourhood', has been met with rave reviews and the November 2017 tour will see the release of the second EP!
Gillian Moranz
You may know Gillian Moranz (aka Little Jill) from the WISE Hall. You may remember her at Skinny Fat Jack’s. You’ve likely seen her around Commercial Drive. You could have met her through South Country Fair, The Twin Butte Store or the Waterton Lakes Opera House. You may know her as the infamous Pickle Back Champion of Petunia Mondays or the No Fun Police outside the WISE Lounge. One way or another, you’ve definitely seen her orchestrating shows and events across East Van and beyond. On top of this, you might be pleased to know that she’s also a song slinging balladeer influenced by the likes of Mary Gauthier, Townes Van Zandt, Bright Lights Off Nights, Leonard Cohen, and The Underbelly Report. When it comes to songwriting, she does her best not to mess around. The wisdom and insight of her songs blend seamlessly with her unique and original sounding voice and her dynamic stories showcase a folk sensibility with an undeniably contemporary twist. Regardless of the context, Moranz always strives to leave her audiences feeling as though they have witnessed something dynamic, compelling, thought-provoking, and profound.
