Double Speak is Boca del Lupo’s quarterly play reading series which looks at the relationship between language and culture by reading excerpts of translated works in both Languages.
One summer evening, a retired librarian is “taken hostage” in her suburban home by her tough-talking teenaged neighbour. Time passes with the unpredictable rhythms of grief – the slowness of healing, the fast-forwards of distraction – as, little by little, this seemingly mismatched pair is able to reach out to each other. After all, the ever-so-civilized “Miss” and the impetuous “Today” have one huge thing in common: the one they love most in the world has just gone away... Moving effortlessly between street-smart humour and lyrical elegance, Harrisson explores love in all its pain, confusion, and unexpected joy.

Parking on Granville Island can take a while with a car so plan ahead or ride your bike or transit to venue if you can.
The Granville peninsula was originally used by First Nations as a fishing area when the inlet was less polluted and all First Nations communities had access to clean drinking water.
