FREE FAMILY MOVIE NIGHT -- SCROOGE (1971)
This engaging musical version by Leslie Bricusse is a faithful retelling of the original Charles Dickens classic. This version finds Scrooge (Albert Finney) as the parsimonious miser with a heart of stone who hates the revelry of the Christmas holiday and is taken on a journey to redemption. The wonderful supporting cast includes Alec Guinness as Jacob Marley, Edith Evans as the ghost of Christmas Past, Kenneth More (Present) and Paddy Stone (Future). Thirteen catchy songs are performed in what has endured to be an annual holiday musical classic. The film received four Academy Award nominations, and Albert Finney won the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in a Musical/Comedy in 1971. G
