Two-time GRAMMY® Award-winning, critically acclaimed New Zealand songstress Kimbra unveils her latest single and video for “Top of the World” today.
Her third full-length album, Primal Heart [Warner Bros. Records]—produced by Kimbra and John Congleton—lands in stores and online January 19, 2018. The pre-order went live today and unlocks an instant grat download of “Top of the World” and the recently released “Everybody Knows.”
Co-produced by Skrillex, “Top of the World” stands out as a dynamic and hypnotizing anthem, equally inspired by bass heavy beats and global grooves. The high energy crescendo proves immediately irresistible and inimitable, unveiling yet another side of Primal Heart.
“Top of the World” follows hot on the heels of “Everybody Knows.” Within six weeks, the song has closed in on over 1 million Spotify streams and has already generated more than 240 thousand YouTube views. Uproxx praised it as “bass-rattling,” and Baeble Music wrote, “If you don’t know Kimbra by now, then you’re in an ever-diminishing minority,” in addition to features from Stereogum, Brooklyn Vegan, and more.
Just in time for the record’s release, Kimbra hits the road on a North American headline tour, kicking off January 28, 2018 at The Paradise in Boston, MA.
The whole world will certainly be watching Kimbra on Primal Heart. She has quietly spent the past two years assembling the 11 tracks on this body of work with hit-machine Skrillex (“Top of the World”), among other producers in Los Angeles and New Zealand. Stripping down Kimbra’s music to bare emotion and heart, the album invites listeners to experience the inherent vulnerability in her voice, conveying raw feeling throughout each song.
Kimbra’s voice seeped into the hearts and minds of listeners around the globe in 2012. She dueted with Gotye on the inescapable quadruple-platinum smash “Somebody That I Used to Know,” which garnered “Record of the Year” and “Best Pop Duo/Group Performance” at the 2013 GRAMMY® Awards. Moreover, she made history by becoming the third New Zealand singer to win a GRAMMY®. She confidently stepped into the spotlight on her second full-length, The Golden Echo, earning acclaim from Paste, Los Angeles Times, Spin, Consequence of Sound and more. Meanwhile, her full-length debut Vows yielded hits such as “Settle Down,” “Cameo Lover,” and others.
