This class is suitable for singers who want to learn how gentle yoga can help prepare the body for maximum vocal resonance, and for yogi's who are interested in learning the fundamentals of healthy vocal technique.
The class is suitable for skilled singers & yogis as well as rank beginners and people with restricted movement. It is all about your personal connection - mind/body/spirit in community.
Everyone has something to learn and something new to experience when we focus on subtle body energy and harmonic vibration.
EACH WEEK we will learn yoga postures and physical routines designed to open the body's energy channels in preparation for maximal vocal vibration!
Together we'll run over vocal mechanics & vocal skill building exercises, as well as ear training and improv - all designed to free you up to experience your authentic voice. Then we'll sing beautiful songs in harmony to connect with one another and align body, mind and soul.
The focus of the class is for each participant to gain experience in being a conscious part of the human harmonic vibration (for healing and well-be-ing). We will record some of the songs so you can take these special experiences home with you!

Think of EACH CLASS AS AN OCCASION for us to become awakened to the power of mantra, to fall in love with mantras and experience them in the purest form that we can co-create.
OUR COLLECTIVE INTENTION is to connect with others consciously, to share light and love. Chanting in community is very healing and a powerful stress reliever. It’s a way for people to connect, relax and find a sense of inner peace. This peaceful state can last for days afterward if not all week long!
ABOUT THE TEACHER: I have been singing and practicing yoga for over 35 years. I became a voice instructor in 1993 after completing my graduation recital at Capilano University's Bachelor of Jazz Studies - Vocal Performance Program. Since then I have taught hundreds of vocalists and become a contemporary vocal technique aficionado!
My awareness of subtle body energy and my ability to explain "technique" in ways that students understand and can apply themselves have earned me a long standing reputation as a teacher who produces results.
When taking my yoga teacher training at Langara College in 2013 I recognized the similarities of subtle body energy work yoga poses. I always knew yoga was good for singing and vice versa, but after my teacher training I realized that the energetic "technique" of both disciplines were essentially the same thing.
In 2016 I combined my passions for teaching yoga and vocal technique at a 5 day adult choir camp, and it was a big hit! I did it again this past summer and many of those students asked if I would run a class during the year... so, here it is! Available to anyone & everyone who is interested and available on Friday mornings!
The type of yoga we will do is gentle hatha style. All exercises can be adapted to chair yoga so you don't have to be "super bendy" to participate!!
