THE BUDDY SYSTEM:
Please remember: consent is sexy… and mandatory. Leave your oppressive misogynistic, transphobic, racist, ableist behaviour at the door. The Buddy System will be in effect at Denim Vest. All Buddies will be wearing glowing bracelets around both wrists. Buddies will have bottled water handy for you, run interference if someone is receiving unwanted attention and generally serve as go-to support people should any problems arise.
While Denim Vest cannot encourage the use of recreational drugs, we understand that folks have a variety of ways they like to party. We will have drug-testing kits available, and both Party Bosses Emily and Melanie are trained to administer NARCAN (available at our party) in the event of an opiate overdose.
ACCESSIBILITY:
Denim Vest is a scent-reduced space. Red Gate Arts Society is an artist space with multiple artists using various chemical-based mediums in the studio space. Unfortunately, we can't guarantee a space that'll be as accessible as we'd like, though encourage people to come scent-free. This is a space we create together!
An accessibility audit has been made for Red Gate Arts Society (last updated August 2014) care of Theo Jakob! Many thanks also to Romham for providing updated information. For more information on accessibility audits, check out the Radical Access Mapping Project.
Entrance is street level with no steps at front entrance. Venue is level or gently ramped throughout. Entrance to back area has a flight of step and is not wheelchair accessible. Accessible washrooms are available with 34” door frames.
Denim Vest takes place on the unceded, ancestral, and traditional homelands of the Musqueam, Skxwú7mesh, and Tsleil-Waututh peoples. As a community event, we organize and seek out intersectional, nuanced, and engaged ways to be in solidarity with Indigenous communities of whose lands we work, resist, and play on.
