The Vancouver Symphony Orchestra presents new classical music in the intimate Annex.
Date/Time: Feb 21 2016, 7:30 pm to 9:00 pm
Vancouver, The Orpheum Annex
Bramwell Tovey conducts Something Old, Something New, a romp through new music inspired by older works of music and art. Peter Hatch’s Il Cimento dell'armonia e dell'inventione (Three Seasonings) recontextualizes Vivaldi’s Four Seasons; Jocelyn Morlock’s Zart offers a whimsical take on Mozart’s Magic Flute; John Orfe’s Dowland Remix (Flow My Tears) is a raucous, electrified remix that wreaks havoc on Dowland’s lament. Rodney Sharman provides an elegiac arrangement of music from Elsewhereless, created as an homage to Takemitsu. In Silbury Air, Harrison Birtwistle is inspired by Wiltshire’s mysterious, prehistoric Silbury Hill. Finally, Chris Paul Harman’s Amerika transforms themes from Bernstein’s West Side Story.
