Each concert will begin with a 10-minute lecture followed by a 45-minute concert featuring VCC’s music faculty members. Performers include Alan Matheson, John Korsrud, Dory Hayley, François Houle, and more.

Concert # 2
John Korsrud Quartet Feb 2nd 8pm
This concert will explore John's love affair with Latin jazz and the music from the Caribbean, with high-energy music by Eddie Palmieri, Michel Camilo and others. The concert will feature one of Canada's top latin-jazz drummers, Raphael Geronimo,Latin-jazz specialist and VCC alumna Niho Takase on piano, and VCC Music Department Leader, Laurence Mollerup on bass
John Korsrud is the recipient of the 2012 City of Vancouver Mayor's Arts Award, the 2015 Canada Council Victor Martyn Lynch-Staunton Award, and is the leader of the 18-piece new music/ jazz ensemble The Hard Rubber Orchestra, a group he formed in 1990. In 2010, John performed on his own trumpet concerto, Come to the Dark Side, at New York’s Carnegie Hall, commissioned and performed by The American Composers Orchestra. John's diverse playing experiences has seen him play with international improvisors such as George Lewis, Anthony Braxton, Barry Guy and Kenny Wheeler to The Vancouver Symphony to Vancouver rock bands such as 54-40 and DOA.
