JESSY BELL SMITH
Jessy Bell Smith born in Guelph Ontario, considers herself to be the possessor of strange gifts. Her approach to music has been one of divining, rather than assembly or construction. A phrase or a progression can appear in small breaks or breakthroughs, where seemingly elderly and intangible voices emerge to tell their
stories. Typically focused on matters of the heart, she can capture a personal moment or event, and translate that experience into a musical expression that sets the invitation to share in a poignant and sometimes irreverent intimacy.
Her cherished 2014 release “The Town” is a collection of songs written over a ten year period, some of which appear as a result of the, what she describes as “tenacity” Te album captures the learnings and longings of small town life, directing gently to clues in grasping the meaning for our presence here, and also
the way we leave.
“It just gives me shivers, the whole album is wonderful" - Cerys Matthews (Catatonia) , BBC Music
