ABOUT SONYA
Sonya Renee Taylor is the Founder and Radical Executive Officer of The Body is Not An Apology, a digital media and education company promoting radical self-love and body empowerment as the foundational tool for social justice and global transformation. Sonya’s work as a highly sought-after award-winning Performance Poet, activist, and transformational leader continues to have global reach. Sonya is a former National and International poetry slam champion, author of two books, including The Body is Not an Apology: The Power of Radical Self-Love (Berrett-Koehler Feb 2018).
ABOUT THE BOOK
The Body Is Not an Apology: The Power of Radical Self-Love illuminates how radical self-love is our native tongue but that body terrorism—through toxic media messaging, systemic bigotry and inequality, and years of shaming—has caused us to forget how to speak it to ourselves and others. In this groundbreaking book and talk, Sonya will identify the 3 Peaces we must muster to master a radical self love practice. Combining live poetry performance, excerpts from her new book, and an always witty and wise authenticity, Sonya will inspire audiences to walk into their own radical self love light. Sonya also recently gave a TEDx Talk, BODIES AS RESISTANCE: Claiming the political act of being oneself. The book is endorsed by Alicia Garza (co-founder of Black Lives Matter), Kimberle Crenshaw and so many others.
