Poets in the Finals will be performing three-minute poems. The first round will consist of twelve poets. The top seven highest-scoring poets will move on to the second round. Then, the top four highest-scoring poets from the second round move on to the third (and final) round. The highest-scoring poet in the third round becomes the 2017 Canadian Individual Poetry Slam Champion. Its a blank slate each round, not cumulative score. The order in each round is determined by random draw.
Canadian Individual Poetry Slam is produced in association with Spoken Word Canada, the official governing body of poetry slam in Canada. The past four winners of this event have gone on to represent English-Speaking Canada at the World Cup of Poetry in Paris.
