Join Thorntree Press for an evening with Kevin A. Patterson, author of the new book Love's Not Color Blind: Race and Representation in Polyamorous and Other Alternative Communities
Date/Time: May 13 2018, 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm
Vancouver, HIVE
We acknowledge that this event will be taking place on the traditional and ancestral lands of the xʷməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and Səl̓ílwətaʔ (Tsleil-Waututh).
Polyamorous people and communities can appear, at first glance, to be very open and welcoming. In many case, they don't take the time to get introspective about why they may come across as unfriendly or inaccessible to people of color. Love's Not Color Blind is a book about what we can do to change that landscape. This book-signing event comes bundled with a workshop on intersectional polyamory + a personally-driven discussion/Q&A on how race can impact polyamory on both individual and community levels.
Doors at 6:30
Reading, Q&A and discussion 7:30–9
Signing 9–9:30
Light snacks will be provided, and there will be a cash bar with wine and beer.
Event accessibility: The venue is the HiVE – Vancouver in Gastown (www.hivevancouver.com). The HiVE is on the second floor, up a long flight of stairs. There is a wheelchair lift up the stairs, and a ramp within the HiVE. The nearest parking is half a block a way, in a surface lot at Hastings and Abbott. There is a parking garage two blocks away at International Village. Dogs frequently visit the space, and scents may be used by coworking members. We ask that event guests avoid wearing scents.
