With a sound that blends high energy Latin, West African, reggae and folk rock rhythms John Welsh & Los Valientes get crowds moving wherever they perform. A world traveler by nature, John Welsh lived and studied in Mexico where he was heavily influenced by the music, language and culture. After several years of playing with various bands he and brother Chris(bass) met Nigerian born Courage "El Valiente" Eigbike who brought his reggae and West African influenced sound. Together they began creating songs with the vision of bringing their world music sound to a mainstream audience.
The band began performing locally and recorded with producer Tyler Johnson(Joshua Hyslop/Bestie/Austin Basham). With the release of the EP and music video “On the Road” their popularity quickly grew across British Columbia and soon they were playing venues and festivals all over western Canada. To fill out their sound for larger performances the band added drummer Nathan Larsen and lead guitarist Devin Modugno. With strong support from CBC and college radio across Canada “On the Road” soon landed in the top 50 on the national Earshot! Charts.
Performing in both English and Spanish the John Welsh & Los Valientes win over audiences with a high energy show that emphasizes crowd participation, upbeat rhythms and singalong choruses. Wherever the band travels they gain new fans of all ages and cultures with their positive message and infectious melodies. In 2016 the John Welsh Band took home a Fraser Valley Music Award and were selected as one of Vancouver's "Best Bands of 2016" by influential blog Vanmusic.com In April 2017 the band released the video for their lead single "Sayulita" on Facebook, filmed in the small Mexican surf town of Sayulita, Mexico. The video went viral and surpassed 1 million views with strong support from Mexico and Southern California. On May 12 their new album "Vamonos Mi Chica" debuted at #2 on the iTunes Canada World Music Charts. The band will be touring Western Canada, United States and Mexico this year so be sure to follow the band on social media to catch new releases and tour dates.
