Engage in activities that respond to the exhibitions, including hands-on artmaking workshops in a range of mediums, an art explorer game in the Gallery, and interactive performances in the Studio Theatre.
Artmaking Activities
Create your own art book, make art with paint, clay, and many more materials, and participate in a performance all inspired by the Gallery’s five current exhibitions! On arrival, you’ll get started on a wearable art book referencing exhibiting artist Elizabeth Hollick’s personal and imaginative sketchbooks. Enjoy looking at her large, colourful paintings of the human body and buildings in Body Politic as you gather ideas for your own watercolour gesture drawings.
In the exhibition Flow: From the Movement of People to the Circulation of Information, explore paintings, photographs, and ceramics that show the movement of people, materials, and ideas. Experiment with monoprinting on plates the stories and people important to you, similar to Soheila Esfahani’s porcelain plates hanging on the gallery wall, printed with imagery chosen by her family, friends, and colleagues. Collaborate with others on building a twisting, changing network of paths out of everyday materials and pop into one of the art studios to sculpt your own masterpiece with clay!
Performance
At 1pm and 2:30pm, join a Bhangra dance and Dhol drumming interactive performance in the Studio Theatre. Performers from South Asian Arts will encourage movement through dance in a musical journey. Get ideas for your moves from watching Meera Margaret Singh’s video installation in the Gallery called Community Centre, showing the joy and spontaneity of people dancing. Pick up your free tickets on arrival to reserve your spot.
