Spiraling Upwards: In this workshop we will examine pathways upwards using spiral movement. Mark Young bridges spiraling exercises from Tai Chi to partnering in Contact Improvisation
Date/Time: Oct 7 2018, 10:00 am to 7:00 pm
Vancouver, The Dance Centre | Event calendarCost: $60.00
We will explore ease of movement with our partners while standing and explore how lifts can occur in an organic nature when both dancers want elevations to happen. This is quintessential to good Contact Improv. It is lifting without grabbing or taking control of your partner. This is a unique approach to Contact Improv with proven results. In this workshop, we will not be rolling on the floor. We will be taking a rest mid-class; bring a snack if you need it, water, etc. (Only water is allowed in the dance rooms, but the hallways are open to eating/snacking/socializing.)

Mark Young studied extensively with the Taoist Tai Chi Society and has bridged those exercises to Steve Paxton’s work, Material for the Spine, and to partnering in Contact Improv. Mark has led many 12-day retreats at his home, Leviathan Studio, on Lasqueti Island, with amazing success.
