Throughout her career, painter Judith M. Atkinson has been captivated by the ancient Western world and themes of feminine empowerment, mystical journeys and mythological figures. Her experiences with antiquity, heightened by recent travels to significant archaeological sites such as Delphi, the Parthenon and ruins in Sicily, are brought into her paintings, both abstract and representational. In her newest body of work, Atkinson dives deeply into a painterly exploration of sacred sites, the cosmos and Greek mythology to create a large-scale installation environment designed specifically for the Art Gallery at Evergreen, complemented by a soundscape composed by Joël Tibbits.
Judith M. Atkinson is an artist and educator based in Port Moody.
