Air Stranger’s sound emerges from the collective musicality of each of its musicians. They combine their unique influences to form a funky, soulful sound simultaneously reminiscent of Anderson .Paak, Vulfpeck, and James Brown, but with harmonic and rhythmic inflections that show the band’s educational background in jazz school.
The rhythm section is comprised of Seb Chamney on guitar and brothers Colin and Eric Sankey on bass and drums respectively. They deliver funky, foot-tapping grooves with colorful jazz harmonies. Vocalist Sophie Richsar seamlessly blends vocal stylings of hip-hop, rock, and funk and enraptures audiences with her powerful, raspy voice and range. Supported by a strong horn section, dubbed the Granville Street Horns, Air Stranger delivers funk-driven soul parallelled by lyrics with keen insight into the topics of today.
