In this concert the Richmond Chorus explores the wealth of Jewish music from the writing of Renaissance composer Salamone Rossi in the early 17th century through to more contemporary works. The Chorus is joined by mezzo-soprano Tabitha Brasso-Ernst for a performance of the beautiful, and very accessible In the Beginning by Aaron Copland, a telling of the Genesis story of creation. We also explore music outside the synagogue, with Eric Whitacre’s Five Hebrew Love Songs, as well as a variety of music from the folk song tradition, ending with Naomi Shemer’s classic Yerushalayim Shel Zahav.
